These products, aimed at driving improved performance, are important elements of the Innovation Expedition. They are part of our efforts to identify, connect and support entrepreneurial innovators and potential innovators in their efforts to develop high performing organizations and to help build sustainable prosperity in their communities.
They are also key to building our brand, ensuring our visibility and putting “flesh” on the term “innovation” in the title of our business.
To date, these products have been used mainly in four ways:
- to position and promote the work of the Innovation Expedition—as brand identifiers
- to serve as supporting resources for Affiliates in carrying out projects
- to provide the base Research and Development for the ongoing work of the Innovation Expedition
- to generate small revenue
We are in the early stages of developing an approach to initiating knowledge product sales as a separate revenue sources. We already have significant materials available or in early draft form under the following categories:
- Compass Points (Knowledge Nuggets or Mind Thumpers) Brief two to four-page idea pieces to serve as a “mind thumper” to trigger awareness and interest in some key ideas and concepts related to unleashing innovation.
- Insight Notes Ten to fifteen page major guides intended to help readers gain a beginning understanding of key innovation concepts and their implications for their organizations and how they might start to use elements of the Guides to improve performance.
- Travel Guides Detailed notes to help organizations utilize the ideas and concepts presented in “Insight Notes” and select appropriate processes and tools to use in implementing major change initiatives aimed at dramatically improving their performance.
- Expedition Reports These can be reports on:
- key learnings the Expedition team has gained from major projects
- studies commissioned by government agencies, industry sectors or research and development groups
- Tool Kits Practical, focused collections of processes, tools and other specialized resources co-created with clients and customized to their priority needs.
- Frameworks / Models for Unleashing Innovation These specialized predictive models have been co-created with some of the Expedition’s alliance partners and intended to help senior executives to understand the realities of the whole innovation supply chain and the implications of various investment models along the supply chain.
- Multi-Media Programs This is a new product line which is under development. It could include such products as:
- Software—such as the “What If” policy choice outcomes analyzer now being developed by Cornford and Murgatroyd
- Radio series or Podcasts—such as the conversation with CBC’s Ideas
- TV series or one-offs—such as the current program proposal to CHUM
- Involvement with Innovation Watch—a leading website for innovation
