A fundamental intent of the Expedition is the desire to help engage leaders in some disciplined thinking about innovation and some action (problem) based learning initiatives that dramatically increase their understanding of this process and their capacity to practice it on an ongoing basis.

The Innovation Expedition injects a global perspective and global insights into initiatives aimed at addressing local, regional, national and international performance challenges.

It engages leaders from all sectors in deep, disciplined thinking about the changing nature of innovation and a new understanding of the whole supply chain of innovation.

It assists organizations to clarify their roles in this supply chain and to experiment with new approaches for optimizing their role.

This has led to a variety of approaches for supporting improvements in organizational performance by unleashing innovations in strategy, structure, support systems, skill development and shared values (5Ss for introducing innovations in an organization).

A key element in this effort to innovate in building support systems for improving performance is commitment by the team to help groups choose and wisely use appropriate information and communication technologies (ICTs).

The team has a proven capacity for co-creating with clients problem-based on-the-job learning activities which build skills in practicing collaborative innovations, while addressing one or more specific complex challenges identified by the organization.

Underlining all these efforts is a desire to stimulate the transformations needed to build a “culture of innovation” (in organizations and in communities) in which disciplined experimentation is both practiced on an ongoing basis and rewarded.
